The Ascend Mate7 may not be on the bleeding edge in every regard, but it’s still a smartly constructed phablet that will satisfy most power users’ needs without totally busting their bank account in the process. Anyone who picks it up will be pleased with its likeable (if not original) design, reliable performance, long-lasting battery, and massive display, as well as practical quirks like its attractive (again, if not original) UI and superb fingerprint reader.

The Mate7 isn’t without its share of problem points, but there aren’t any phone-breaking flaws in sight here.

Instead, Huawei has crafted a massive yet well-rounded device that makes great use of the phablet form.

  • Reliable metal body
  • Exceptional display-to-device ratio
  • Functional fingerprint reader
  • Great battery life

  • Screen can get too dim
  • Main camera is not up-to-date
  • Battery isn’t removable

Quick Take:

The Ascend Mate7 is massive even compared to other phablets, but it does much more right than wrong. Its quality build, strong chipset, and excellent battery earn it a spot among the best in its class of devices.
