Proporta Gadget Bag Review

I received the Proporta Gadget Bag a while back, and have been using it quite regularly for toting around my growing PC repair kit. It’s a sturdy multi part bag with a shell made of Cordura, a scuff resistant, tear resistant, abrasion resistant, and waterproof nylon fabric. It has held up well, and shows no dirt or abrasions to date.

The Gadget Bag is actually a multi part bag consisting of one large bag, two medium sized bags, and a smaller pouch. The large and medium sized bags are attached to each other with two rugged nylon zippers. The small pouch is mounted inside the large bag with a large Velcro patch. There is a removable nylon shoulder strap that attaches to the largest bag. The largest bag also has a durable elastic strap to hold your cables in place.

I found that I can use the space between the two smaller bags and the larger bag as a storage compartment as well. The smaller bags zip to the outer edge of the larger bag on the front, leaving room between the two for CDs, documents, or a small book. However, this area will not work for small items such as styli, pens, earphones, etc, as there is a small gap between the two medium sized bags.

Each bag is padded and provides a good amount of protection from normal bouncing and jarring.

Each also has a built in Charging Bay. You can plug in your rechargeable devices while still in the bag. I’ve found that these bays also work well for plugging in headphones, and USB cables. You can comfortably listen to a MP3 player while the Gadget Bag is slung over your shoulder.

The one drawback I encountered is with the large bag. If I choose to remove the small bag from within, I leave myself with the stiff side of the Velcro exposed (view image). I’m leery of putting scratch sensitive items in this bag without the smaller bag being present. Unfortunately, the small bag attaches in the lower right hand corner of the large bag, and could be considered a space waster if you’re looking to utilize the full space of the larger bag without scratching.

Pros:

  • Carry what you need – remove unused bags.
  • Waterproof bag – don’t worry about being caught in the rain.
  • Adjustable shoulder strap – carry it over one shoulder, or across your chest.
  • Padded insides – confidently carry your delicate items.
  • Charging Bay – plug in gadgets without unpacking everything.

Cons:

  • Nylon zipper – can be difficult to attach / detach medium bags.
  • Velcro mounting – with small bag removed, stiff Velcro patch in large bag my scratch delicate items.
  • Small pouch – may be in the way of other items in larger bag.

You can find the Gadget Bag at www.proporta.com for $47.95.
