The iPod beats the pants off of any MP3 player out there. With a 5GB hard drive; a compact, elegant design; and a superfast FireWire connection, this is the hard drive-based player to beat. The iPod's only real downsides are that it's less than ideal for jogging, doesn't come with a carrying case, and is a tad expensive.
You can use the iPod as a portable storage device to transport any kind of files between two compatible computers. Out of deference to copyright holders, it can sync MP3s to iTunes only on a single Mac. However, by activating the View Hidden Folders preference on your Mac, you can get around this protection.
