palmOne has released a software driver that allows its first Wi-Fi SD card to work with the new Tungsten T5.
This Wi-Fi card uses the 802.11b standard. It can transfer data at up to 11 Mbps and has a maximum range of 300 feet.
Until this driver was available, this card supported only the Tungsten T3 and Zire 72.
While there are other Wi-Fi SD cards on the market, palmOne's is the only one compatible with these three models.
The driver can be found on palmOne's Support web site. The card itself can be purchased from palmOne's shopping web site for $129. It is also available from other online retailers; Buy.com has it for about $96.
It is not clear at this time if palmOne will release a driver that will allow this card to be used with the new Treo 650 smartphone. Company executives have made contradictory statements on this subject.
Zire 71 users who would like a Wi-Fi SD card have the option of buying one from SanDisk.
