According to Andy Rubin, the head of Android development at Google, over 900,000 smartphones and tablets running this mobile operating system are activated every day.
The Android OS is the most popular option for phones, and it is continuing to see growth quarter after quarter. Rubin said in June of last year that daily activations were at 500,000, by late December that number had grown to 700,000 activations each day, and it had reached 850,000 by late February.
Market-research firm IDC says that Google's mobile OS was on 59% of all smartphones shipped in the first quarter of this year, more than double the 23% share of the iOS.
Rubin Not Going Anywhere
In addition to announcing the number of daily Android activations, Andy Rubin also squashed a rumor that he is looking for a new job. A rare Tweet from him posted yesterday says it susinctly, "No plans to leave Google."
