In what looks like an attempt to clear out excess inventory, perhaps to make room for the September release of the next generation Apple iPhone, Sprint is offering the iPhone 4S at a discount, taking $50 off the price of all three models.
The 16GB iteration of Apple's latest smartphone is currently selling for $150 from Sprint, with the 32GB and 64GB versions marked down to $250 and $350, respectively. Additionally, the nation's third largest carrier is waving the $36 activation fee for online orders, with the new pricing available until Sept. 14.
Back in the days of Steve Jobs, the iPhone never went on sale until after the launch of a successor, as seen last year with the $100 price cut given to the iPhone 4 after the release of the iPhone 4S. Yet, with new reports pegging the next-generation iPhone with a Sept. 12 reveal date and a Sept. 21 roll out, Sprint is likely clearing up shelf space for the highly-speculated device.
While Apple has continued its code of silence in addressing iPhone 5 rumors, earlier reports of the smartphone have possibly revealed some new specs, such as a larger screen, 4G LTE and a smaller Dock Connector.
