With the supposed Sept. 21 release date of the next generation Apple iPhone quickly approaching, more details of the device have come to light, with new reports leaking images of the smartphone's battery and dock cabling.
According to information coming out, the iPhone 5 will pack a 1440 mAh battery, which is just slightly larger than the one in the iPhone 4S, which is 1430 mAh. Along with the slight increase in capacity, the new battery also features a new voltage of 3.8. The iPhone 4S currently has a watts-per-hour measurement (wHr) of 5.3, while the iPhone 5 will have an increased wHr of 5.45.
With unconfirmed reports indicating the sixth-generation smartphone from Apple will have a larger display and 4G LTE, this slight increase in battery capacity might not provide enough power for these two new features that require significantly more juice. Apple could be opting for a super-slim model instead of incredible battery life, though one hopes the company learned its lesson from the battery issues that initially plagued the iPhone 4S.
New Info on the Redesigned Dock Connector
Reports of a smaller Dock Connector have been floating around for a while, and now an alleged image of it has surfaced. According to the photo, the connector is even smaller than first thought, with just 8 pins. This is incredibly tiny compared to the 30 overall pins that are included in the current version.
While the new cable end looks dual-sided, there's no confirmation whether Apple has eliminated the right-side up requirement that is common today on just about every mobile-sized port format. The smaller Dock Connector is supposedly to allow Apple to make the iPhone slimmer, which fits nicely with earlier claims.
Of course Apple has remained silent on all iPhone 5 rumors, but with a little over a month until the reported Sept. 12 unveiling event, consumers won't have to wait long to see if the rumors hold true.
